Witnessed is a personal safety app for Android. One tap starts recording, and the video leaves your phone while you are still filming. If you cannot cancel the countdown, your trusted contacts get the footage and your last known location.
Get it on Google Play Free. Android phones and tablets.
Open Witnessed and tap once. It can also start recording the moment you open the app.
You choose how long it runs. Reach safety, cancel it, and nobody is alerted.
They get your recording, your last known location, and a link to a private alert page, by push, email and SMS.
Your contacts see what happened and where you were, so they can check on you or call for help.
A recording sitting on your phone is only as safe as your phone. Phones get grabbed, smashed, and handed over, and people get told to unlock them and delete what is on them.
Witnessed uploads your video continuously while you are still filming. If your phone is taken during a stop, or broken, or it just dies in your pocket, what you already recorded is no longer on it. Your contacts already have it, and nobody has to give it back to you.
Front or back camera, and you can flip between them while recording.
Type it and the app looks like you shut everything down. The alert goes out anyway.
Your last known position goes out with the footage, so your contacts know where to look.
Push, email and SMS, and your contacts get the message in their own language.
Response confirmations are off by default, so nothing appears on your screen to give you away.
Run a full drill so you know the alerts reach your contacts before you ever need them.
They are stored as one way hashes, so nobody at Witnessed can read them.
Your data is not sold and is never used for advertising.
Footage goes to the emergency contacts you picked, nobody else.
Remove your account and all of its data from inside the app, at any time.
A personal safety app for Android. It records video of what is happening around you, uploads it off your phone as you film, and alerts the emergency contacts you chose if you do not cancel the countdown in time.
Yes. The app is free. An optional subscription called Guardian adds more emergency contacts, longer recording history, and voice call alerts.
If you are forced to unlock your phone, you enter the decoy PIN instead of your real one. The app looks like you cancelled everything, and the alert goes to your contacts anyway.
No. Witnessed alerts the people you chose. It is not an emergency service and does not replace your local emergency number.
Everything already uploaded is safe with your contacts, because the video leaves your phone while you are still recording.
Witnessed is not an emergency service. It does not contact the police, an ambulance, or any public emergency service, and it is not a substitute for your local emergency number such as 911, 112 or 999. It needs a working device, a network connection, and contacts who choose to respond, so delivery cannot be guaranteed. In a real emergency, call official emergency services.
